We Love Pizza

Everyone loves pizza, right? And have we found two pizza-tastic treats for you lot this week. Eating out in Brighton can sometimes be a bit of a lottery, but you can’t go wrong if you give these a go …

Pizzaface is an independent pizza delivery shop on St George’s Road in Kemptown that takes its pizza seriously. Concentrating on doing one thing very well, it’s all about good quality ingredients here, much of it local; meat and flour is supplied by L’Isola Buona in Newhaven, fresh vegetables are delivered daily, dough is made with the finest ‘oo’ Sardinian flour, ice cream comes from Boho Gelato, Henry Butler supplies the wine, and the drinks and vegan products are supplied by Infinity Foods.

Simple pizzas showcase bold flavours, with a veritable selection of tasty toppings, including pork and wild boar salami, smoked tuna, lamb Prosciutto, shiitake mushrooms, gorgonzola, sun-dried tomatoes and smoked chipotle chilli. Not all on the same pizza, obviously. There are also vegan and gluten-free options, if you’re that way inclined. Demand has been so great that there’s a new shop planned for Hove. Watch this space.

Never judge a book by its cover. If you’ve ever walked past this place you’ll know what we mean. From the outside Pizza 500 looks pretty uninspiring, but step inside and you could be fooled into thinking you’ve stumbled on a back street pizzeria in Naples.

If the crispy pizza bases, authentic tomato sauce (not too much, always a sign of a good pizza), melt in the mouth gnocchi, handmade sausages and divine ice cream (made from scratch in a beautiful Italian ice cream maker from the 1960s) aren’t enough to tempt you through the doors, wait until you see the beer menu. Work your way through a selection of delicious Italian bottled beers that you won’t find anywhere else in Brighton, a snip at £2 a bottle.

All the staff come from Italy, including the owner who couldn’t do enough for us when we visited. What a lovely man. What a lovely place. If you’re looking for a top quality, reasonably-priced restaurant in Brighton, with friendly, attentive staff, get yourself down to Pizza 500 right now.
